We have been pushing the miles quite a bit during the past week or so and today was a short day for us. We are in Stuart and are staying with a friend and former colleague of Dana’s. So we decided that rather than take a day off we would just do a short day instead. So for our day off we only rode 45 miles.

We tried to leave late but being who we are, we woke up early anyways. We did chill and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and left around 7:45. We took the route along the ocean which was peaceful and quite enjoyable. We stopped several time just to enjoy the area. We had to cross over back to the mainland and found a coffee shop where we enjoyed our lattes and split a cinnamon walnut crepe. Pretty tasty!

We headed out again and meandered along the coast line and after about 15 miles we stopped and had a picnic of bread and cheese.

We stopped to get a few things at a pharmacy and a young guy (50ish) looked at us and..

him: where you riding from

me: the great state of Maine

him: on bikes? me: yup

him: on these bikes? me: yup

him: you really don’t have a car?

me: nope this is it. him: well good for you.

Later he came back out and told Dana he has a friend that has been taking about doing some riding and he is going to call him and tell us he needs to do this trip. I love shocking strangers. :)

We were ready to take off again and were waiting for cars to clear out before heading out in the bike lane. A man waved us on and then he yelled out “have a safe trip, be safe.” Human kindness is easy and priceless.

Now we rest and get ready for four rather long days ahead of us.
