Long Haul - Day 42 (9/27/21) Jacksonville, FL - Palm Coast 81.2 miles.
I am including some pics from our meal last evening. We found a restaurant called “The Bearded Pig”. It reminded us a lot of Goshen Brewing Company. It just seemed to have the same vibe and also some of the customers apparently knew each other and were hanging out together. A huge difference was that we didn't know anyone. :). It was a good meal and experience.
We are currently on the coast of Florida and will be riding along it for the rest of our trip. We left Jacksonville this morning and the traffic was pretty heavy for the first hour until we were completely out of town. Fortunately, we had a bike lane almost all the way out of town. We were several hours from the coast so we wove around on our way. The gps took us along and all of a sudden instructed us to turn right. The problem was, there were two gates chained together with a sign “authorized personnel only”. Furthermore, the path was a grass lane that looked a bit soggy. we had to reroute which took us out of the way until we got onto A1A. I had been dreading that road since we had been told that people are crazy on that route. There was considerable traffic but we had a nice shoulder and a designated bike lane. Even though we had cars passing us constantly, it was really nice to have the lane. As we headed south the 4 lane turned into a two lane and had a nice bike lane. We were riding along when all of a sudden I saw a cyclist immediately to my left. The cyclist was a local rider that wanted to chat. So for the next 5 miles we chatted about ourselves. I asked him about the route and he said he had ridden from the north to key west several times and almost all of it has the nice lane for bikes. I suddenly felt a lot better about the upcoming miles.
The rest of the day consisted of typical Florida coastal scenery. See the pics. It was a pleasant riding day with lots of great scenery.
