Ellsworth Falls to Belfast (43 miles)

After the day we had yesterday, we thought a shorter day might be in order. Last evening we stayed at a “warm showers” home. Google it if you don’t know what that is. It was a very pleasant accommodations but it was about 2 miles from any restaurants. I tried to get an Uber/Lyft with no luck. So we walked a mile to a supermarket and snagged some food and loaded up with Gatorade for today. Sometime during the course of our bumpy ride yesterday, a screw came loose from Dana’s rear rack and I didn’t want that flopping around all day. We started the day by backtracking to a Home Depot and picked up several screws, loctite, electrical tape and batteries for one of Dana’s tail lights. As we headed out of town we hit the first of many pesky hills which lasted for the next 20 miles. The hills weren’t all that high but they were just steep enough and long enough that we were doing some serious panting by the time we got to the top And sometimes that meant we finished by pushing our bikes rather than riding them. The last 20ish miles the hills flattened quite a bit and of course climbing slowed us down but they were much more manageable. We are starting to make the turn south. So far we have been heading mostly west and will now start heading south. This is serious tourist country and it is still in full swing. There is a weather system moving in this evening that is supposed to dump quite a bit of rain over night and ending by 10 am. It was a bit challenging even finding a motel and they can get a bit pricey but we are out of the rain. Still no bears. :( Also don’t forget to donate money to plant trees.
