Long Haul - Day 20 (9/5/21) Trenton NJ to Chester PA 57.7 miles.
You’ve had one of those days when you look back and think, “hmmm…nothing really memorable happened today” Well today was more like that than yesterday. The gps kept pushing us back to the tow path and I smiled and ignored that obnoxious voice in my ear. Fool me once… :)
Our trip today took us through downtown Trenton which wasn’t all that bad. Then we wove through more urban areas the rest of the day. We actually had no rural riding today. I really enjoy riding through these areas. I think you can learn so much about an area when you slow down enough to see behind the billboards and exit signs. We wandered through Trenton, East Philly, river front Philly, South Philly, past the airport and then landed in Chester, PA. We saw a lot of lower economically developed residential and commercial sectors. As I said earlier, I do enjoy riding through these areas. We were riding along a pretty “franchise loaded” strip and had stopped by a stop light when a woman pulled up beside us, rolled down her window and asked how old we were. Dana said 63, and I said 65. You could tell she was moderately shocked so I said “we are riding from Maine to Florida. Her eyes bugged out and she shook her head. Then I asked her what adventure she is living. It was a 15 second conversation but it was pretty fun. Her expression was priceless. It was also humorous that she thought it was worth asking two stranger their ages. I guess we look pretty old. To be fair, I do feel pretty old every afternoon and also first thing in the mornings. :)
