Long Haul - Day 18 (9/3/21) New Rochelle NY to Elizabeth NJ 46.1 miles.
Back on the road again. We scheduled a shorter ride today because we didn’t know how long it would take to get through the big city. We didn’t see a lot of evidence of the angry Ida, although we did see some branches down and some debris on the paths. The first part of the ride was through residential areas and along some streets with small storefront businesses. As we got closer to NY we were directed to bike paths off the busy streets. The best part of the ride was along the Hudson River. It was a well developed and separated path along a main and busy road. We ended our ride through NY at the ferry which took us across the Hudson River into New Jersey. From there we wound our way through Jersey City back into New York State and then back into NJ. So we started in New Rochelle, passed through the Bronx, past Park Ave, about 5 blocks on Fifth Ave, within three blocks from Washington Heights (I loved that movie), past Manhattan, along the Hudson River (remember Captain Sully?), across the Hudson River, through Jersey City across long bridges (thankfully there were several bike paths) and finally at our motel (if it actually qualifies as one). The room is clean, (at least it smells clean), the shower knob is broken (my vice grip solved that problem), the smoke detector is missing and we had to ask for tp, but it was about the only one available in this area. We haven’t found any bed bugs, snakes or rats, so things could be worse. Another day under our belts.
