Long Haul - Day 10 Malden - Boston Pier 8.7 miles. Provincetown - Dennis 41.4, Total 50.1 miles.
We woke early this morning because we were headed to the Boston Ferry Pier to catch a ferry to Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod. We rode to the central district of Boston before rush hour but it still got a bit dicey by the time we arrived at the piers with about an hour to spare. After an uneventful ferry ride, we rolled our bikes off the ferry and started the ride from the tip of the cape west towards the mainland. The first 10 miles weren’t all that exciting as it was on a busy highway and our scenery was basically cars whizzing by. We docked around 10:15 so it was already getting hot. We grabbed lunch and the soon after we got on an asphalt trail and rode the rest of the way. The trail was nice and offered a lot of shade but we stopped regularly to get a drink and cool down. We had made arrangements to stay another Warmshowers home. The couple was probably early 70s and were avid cyclists as well. She had ridden from the East coast to the west coast for her 60th birthday. In conversation I discovered he roasts his own coffee, so we did some coffee talking. They were great hosts and we spent most of the evening talking. tourist season is in full swing here so there are lots of cars and activities here. Hopefully things will settle down as kids go back to school.
